José Lopez, Fellow

José Lopez is former Executive Vice President of Operations, Nestlé SA. In a career spanning more than 30 years at Nestlé, José held a number of positions including Operations Director of the Oceania region and CEO of Nestlé Japan before taking up a role on Nestlé’s Executive Board in February 2007.


Biography:

At Nestlé, José was responsible for procurement, manufacturing, supply, engineering, quality management, agriculture, safety & health, environment and operations performance. In this role, José established a sustainability framework for the group to support a business strategy that derives economic value from enhanced social and environmental outcomes.

José was Chairman of the GS1 Management Board (Global Standards) in 2009 and, since 2010, has been a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL). José has participated in a number of civil society activities, including as President of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and as Ambassador for Kobe during his tenure in Japan. He is passionate about water and lead a specialised committee on water within the Nestlé Group.

As a Fellow of CISL, José will be focusing his energies on three areas:

  • helping businesses to operationalise sustainability - turning vision into concrete action, delivering commercial success through enhanced social and environmental outcomes
  • developing leaders for the future - equipping people to perform commercially by integrating awareness of their context and a clear sense of purpose into their thinking and decisions
  • focusing on CISL’s natural capital work, strengthening the commercial focus to ensure that the new knowledge and tools that are created are designed for implementation
