Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

There are two routes that can be taken to achieve a CISL Master of Studies (MSt) qualification, i.e.  ‘continuous’ or ‘flexible’. Both routes provide the same learning outcomes and networking opportunities.

  • The continuous route is the traditional delivery method for the MSts, which entails part-time study over two years without interruptions.

The flexible route splits the part-time MSt into stages over a number of years; thereby splitting the journey into stages with the potential for breaks between stages. This may offer advantages for students seeking  to fit their studies around work, family and other commitments. The course fees are paid at the start of each stage.

Credits from a lower qualification (early stage) is subsumed by a subsequent, higher qualifications (later stage), i.e. only one qualification is held following the completion of any stage.

Continuous Routes

Apply to either the MSt in Sustainability Leadership or the MSt in Interdisciplinary Design for the Built Environment (IDBE).

Flexible Routes

MSt Sustainability Leadership has three flexible pathways:

  1. Apply to the nine month long Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business, choosing between the Organisational or Value Chains steam (Stage 1), then the two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Business (Stage 2), followed by the two-year Masters of Studies in Sustainability Leadership flexible route (Stage 3).

  1. Apply to the Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Business from the outset, inclusive of Stages 1 and 2, which takes 3 years to complete, then the two year Masters of Studies in Sustainability Leadership flexible route (Stage 3).

  1. Apply to the nine month Postgraduate Certificate, choosing either stream, then the two-year Masters of Studies in Sustainability Leadership continuous route. Candidates would be exempt from workshop 1 of the Masters, and the first year assignments, having completed these during the PG Certificate. This route takes 3 years if studied consecutively.

In all instances students must be able to complete their proposed course of study within 10 years of enrolment on the PG Certificate at CISL. Alternatively, candidate must provide evidence of learning or experience that demonstrates substantive continued engagement with relevant topics and activities in the last few years.

Credits from the Postgraduate Certificate in IDBE are not transferable to the Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Business or the MSt Sustainability Leadership.

The MSt in IDBE (Sustainability Leadership for the Built Environment) has one flexible pathway:

  • Apply to the Postgraduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Design for the Built Environment, delivered part-time over ten months, followed by the MSt in Sustainability Leadership for the Built Environment (MSt IDBE).

Note that these two programmes can be taken consecutively and you have between three and ten years to complete both stages of your course.

Credits from the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business are not transferable to the MSt IDBE
