About
The 30th COP (COP30) is set to be hosted by Brazil in November 2025, and the Presidency has a lot on its agenda. This briefing explores the key topics that will be dealt with at COP30, including:
The Global Mutirão: a call from the presidency for collective, community-driven mobilisation. This new and experimental approach seeks to inclusively co-create a global framework in which stakeholders at different levels and in diverse geographies will be encouraged to present ‘self-determined contributions’, serving as bottom-up action.
Fossil fuels, renewables and the Global Stocktake (GST): calling on Parties to accelerate efforts to triple renewable energy capacity globally by 2030, to double the global average annual rate of energy efficiency improvements by 2030, and to transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner.
Energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean: including our Ibero-American Business Network (IABN)’s call for a just, inclusive and prosperous energy transition in Latin America and beyond in the run-up to COP30.
Accountability for a just transition: ensuring that addressing climate change is an inclusive and socially just process that acknowledges historically marginalised voices and the needs of vulnerable groups.
Integrating nature: the interlinkages between climate and nature, with each area being critical to the other, mean that this theme is expected to have a growing role in the climate conferences well beyond COP30.
The UNFCCC COP is central to tackling climate change as the only forum which brings together all countries in the world to discuss and collaborate on climate action.
For businesses, financial institutions and other economic actors, this is a pivotal moment to engage meaningfully – through responsible policy advocacy, demonstrating action rather than just commitments, and supporting ambitious negotiating outcomes with a unified voice – to help shape a just, nature-positive and resilient global economy. CISL and its partners will continue to support this effort, providing insight, convening leadership and championing the urgent need for action.
