Caroline Barr is Head of Sustainability Expertise at ABN AMRO UK, providing strategic legal and commercial guidance to business lines on sustainability-related risks and opportunities across the UK and Europe. She has played a key role in shaping the bank’s transition finance framework and in originating and executing sustainability-linked and green lending transactions. Caroline is focused on the role banks can play in accelerating the shift to a resilient, low‑carbon and nature-positive economy. She believes that, through robust standards, well-designed incentives and effective execution, banks can direct capital towards decarbonisation, social impact and improved environmental outcomes.
Before joining ABN AMRO, Caroline spent 15+ years in private practice at tier-one firms in Scotland and the Netherlands, where she built an ESG-focused legal practice advising on green project finance, sustainable finance regulation and ethical lending. She holds an LLM from Utrecht University and an LLB from the University of Glasgow.
Caroline is Chair of the Banking and Environment Initiative, supporting collaboration on practical approaches to sustainable banking and transition finance.
