Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

CISL Pan-African Network Event

7 August 2025 – Alumni of CISL in Africa came together for the inaugural Pan-African Network Gathering. It was a unique opportunity for network members from eight countries across Africa to reconnect, reflect and help shape the future of sustainability leadership on the continent.

Hosted online, the session created space to reflect on the kind of leadership Africa requires at this moment of global complexity and regional transformation. It also served as a platform to re-engage around the strategic vision of CISL Africa and the role of networks in enabling systemic change.

Prof Richard Calland, Director, CISL Africa, provided insights into CISL Africa’s evolving priorities and critical partnerships. Other speakers at the event included Jennifer Greggs, CISL Network Programme Manager, and Susan Njoroge and Khanyi Mlambo, CISL Fellows & Network Ambassadors, who spoke about how the Network functions and its benefits to members. They also touched on the role of Network Ambassadors in facilitating regional collaboration and engagement.

An open mic session, moderated by Sibusiso Nkomo, Programme Manager at CISL Africa, allowed participants to share their experiences on CISL programmes, expectations of the Network and how they can contribute to CISL programmatic objectives. It was a reminder of the depth and breadth of leadership across our network and the collective will to drive forward sustainable development on the continent.

CISL looks ahead with optimism to fully engaging the unique pool of talent and expertise across the African continent to further enhance our footprint and impact. All CISL Network members are invited to get involved in future activities by visiting CISL’s private LinkedIn group for Network members or contacting the Ambassador for your region.
