Biography

He originally joined Marks & Spencer in 1971, going on to manage a series of other retail chains before returning as CEO and then Chairman. He is a Non-Executive Director of Woolworths (South Africa), and Chairman of Ocado, Fat Face, Oasis Healthcare Group and The Healing Foundation, a medical charity. He was knighted in 2008 and made a life peer in September 2014.
