Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Rupert is a programme manager in CISL’s Digital Learning Team, where he is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and enhancing a portfolio of online courses, and supports the creation of in-person executive education programmes across a range of sectors. Working with clients, key contributors, industry experts and delivery partners, he ensures the programmes within the portfolio are aligned to best practice in terms of sustainability trends, online pedagogy and education technology. With a background in both architecture and digital education, he is particularly passionate about creating impactful interactive learning experiences that drive a more sustainable built environment and future for all.

Biography

Rupert is a trained architect, with a Master's in Architecture (MSc, Professional) from the University of Cape Town, where he also tutored architectural design. His academic research focused on how inclusive public spaces can reconnect people with natural systems. As an architect, he worked primarily on the design and construction management of eco-tourism and wilderness education facilities for public and private conservation organisations in sensitive natural environments (with The Architecture Co-op). In addition, he worked on several large-scale urban design projects in South African cities (with Nisa Mammon & Associates).

Rupert is an experienced instructional designer, having worked at 2U/edX (GetSmarter) with partners like Yale’s School of the Environment, MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning and the National University of Singapore’s School of Computing.
