Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Sid is Programme Director for ClimateWise. He was previously Chief Executive of the New Zealand Earthquake Commission dealing with the recovery from the catastrophic Canterbury and Kaikoura Earthquakes. He led the implementation of a world leading public-private partnership insurance model to ensure that New Zealand has the resilience, risk transfer, readiness and recovery capability to deal with future natural hazard events. In recognition for his work, he was jointly awarded the 2021 ANZIIF New Zealand Insurance Leader of the Year.

He also works on a range of initiatives with Lloyd’s Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), UK Government’s Business of Resilience, Insurance Development Forum (IDF) and the World Bank on the development of collaborative public-private partnerships to build global resilience to society’s most complex and newly emerging risks.
