Dr Ellie Standen has over 15 years’ experience tackling climate change, across business, academia and government sectors. Primarily as a low carbon energy consultant, Ellie has worked on accelerating the deployment of low carbon transport and hydrogen energy systems through developing novel demonstration projects and supporting commercialisation by bringing together collaborative partners to develop demonstration projects of low carbon technologies. Working in the UK Treasury Ellie gained broad experience of environmental taxation and developed the UK’s first auctions of EU Emissions Trading Scheme allowances. Her particular interests are in how Governments can support the development of novel approaches and technologies through to commercialisation to improve environmental outcomes and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ellie worked with Sir David King to set up the Centre for Climate Repair at the University of Cambridge, leading the development of the organisation and work on greenhouse gas removals and achieving net zero. Currently a self-employed consultant, Ellie is also a tutor on CISL’s Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business and a supervisor on CISL’s Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership. Ellie holds a Master’s degree in Earth Sciences from Oxford University and a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Cambridge.
