Mary-Jane  Morifi, Senior Associate

Mary-Jane Morifi is currently the Global Capital Campaign Lead for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust which is building a specialist referral children’s hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa.


Mary-Jane’s responsibilities include among others raising the $100 million required to build and equip the hospital and to train the paediatric specialists and sub specialists. The hospital is due to open in June 2016. She joined the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital from Anglo American Platinum where she held the position of Executive Head of Corporate Affairs for 6 years. Mary-Jane's portfolio included, among others: Corporate Communications and Branding, Sustainability and Sustainable Community Development and corporate reporting through the Integrated Annual Report and the Sustainability Report. She joined Anglo American Platinum from BP International in London where she was Director of Internal Audit. 

Mary-Jane has served as a facilitator and contributor to the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) programme in South Africa for 7 years, focusing mainly on Sustainability within the extractive industries, in particular mining. Mary-Jane serves on a number of not-for-profit Boards and is on the UCT Foundation. She is the Chairperson of Leratong Hospice, a palliative care organisation, and is a trustee of the Black Sash Trust, a human rights organisation. She recently joined the Board of the Open Society Foundation in South Africa.
