Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Cindy Berman is the Director of Impact and Innovation at Electronics Watch, a not-for-profit organisation that works with public bodies to advance socially responsible procurement practices and improve human rights and environmental standards in global value chains. It works closely with businesses, international agencies, civil society organisations, academics and trade unions.

Biography

Cindy has championed social justice and worked on human rights issues internationally for over 35 years. Born in South Africa, she was deeply involved in the anti-apartheid movement.  She has held senior positions at the UN, national government, multilateral agencies, civil society organisations, multi-stakeholder initiatives, philanthropies, academic institutions and worked as an independent consultant. Her expertise lies in business and human rights due diligence, international development, corporate accountability, modern slavery, labour standards, migration, gender and other forms of equality. She has lived and worked in Asia, Africa, Europe and the United States.

She tutors at the University of Cambridge on the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business. She holds master’s degrees from University College London and Witwatersrand University in South Africa.

She sits on several expert advisory and governing bodies, and does voluntary mentoring and coaching for several charities. Cindy believes strongly we need to balance our working lives with looking after our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. She teaches yoga and Nia dance.
