12 January 2015 – The work of cooperative initiatives are becoming increasingly recognised as greenhouse gas emissions reduction becomes more and more important. But, what do we mean when we talk about ‘cooperative initiatives’?

We broadly define an International Cooperative Initiative, or ‘ICI’, as any international initiative that makes a direct contribution to closing the emissions gap.

The Climate Initiatives Database includes a comprehensive collection of information on international climate initiatives currently in operation. Initiatives are included which meet our current working definition:

  • Contribute to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Are international in scope or have the potential for significant impact at global scale;
  • Are either dialogues, formal multilateral processes or implementation initiatives.
