Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

15 October 2014 – Today, business Leaders from The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group are joining European Ministers responsible for energy and climate change for the European Green Growth Summit. The purpose of this summit is to send a clear de-carbonisation signal from Ministers, MEPs and businesses while crucial decisions are being made regarding the EU’s future energy and climate plans.

The goals of the summit are;

1. To promote strong low carbon ambition in the final stages of the EU decision-making process around the 2030 Energy and Climate Package, by bringing in new voices and demonstrating the need for clear EU Leadership on the 2030 Climate & Energy Package in order to avoid investment uncertainty for business and costly impacts associated with delayed actions on climate change;

2. Making a clear link between the 2030 package and the Energy Security strategy as a catalyst for low carbon innovation, prosperity and growth;

3. To identify clear and concrete actions to be pursued in the new Commission and European Parliament mandate in order to further explore, promote and pursue a cost-effective and ambitious EU decarbonisation strategy

The event builds on the previous Green Growth Summits held in March 2014 and October 2013.  It comes at a critical point in the EU and UN negotiating and decision making processes.
