24 June 2016 – CISL Network event explored the individual and collective leadership, collaboration, action and innovation that will be required to lay the foundations for a sustainable economy,

On Friday 24 June, nearly 200 members of CISL’s international Network gathered for an event, ‘Leadership for change,’ which marked the first anniversary of CISL’s Rewiring the Economy plan.

The event, which explored the individual and collective leadership, collaboration, action and innovation that will be required to lay the foundations for a sustainable economy, provided an opportunity for the CISL Network to hear from senior leaders from business, finance, policy and academia on three key themes:

  • Achieving a zero carbon, climate resilient economy: how can we align finance with the transition?
  • Resource futures: what systems level interventions do we need to secure the sustainability of vital resources?
  • Business, the Sustainable Development Goals and social sustainability: opportunity or duty or both?

During the event, 10 new CISL Ambassadors were announced. Our Ambassadors are tasked with championing the Institute’s work and creating common interest groups for Network members in countries worldwide.

Opening the event Dame Polly Courtice, Director, CISL, said:

“It is wonderful to welcome so many leaders from so many different parts of our work. Last year was a year of great decisions for the world – with the Paris Agreement, and the Sustainable Development Goals giving us the closest thing the world has to a strategy. Now we must focus on moving forward, on driving change and on practical implementation, which is why today is important, and deserves our undivided attention.”
