Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

20 October 2017 – Andrew Voysey, Director, Sustainable Finance at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), today delivered a keynote address to a gathering of over 100 Dutch pension fund Board representatives.

The summit, organised by TKP Pension Services and TKP Investments, brought together senior leaders from a wide range of Dutch pension funds to review key issues and trends shaping their operating context, and practical actions that pension fund leaders can take in response. In his address, Andrew covered topics such as how and why financial regulation is evolving with respect to sustainability issues; putting long-termism into practice; how intermediaries can measure and report on the social and environmental impact of funds to beneficiaries; and the evolving role of fintech in sustainable finance.

On the same day, CISL organised a private roundtable discussion for Dutch pension funds particularly motivated by taking practical steps to design long-term behaviours into their investment mandates. This roundtable represented a further step in the work of the Investment Leaders Group (ILG) on this topic, following the publication last year of Taking the long view: a toolkit for long-term, sustainable investment mandates. Insights about what is working in practice to deliver long-termism in investment practice were shared by participants and will inform the ongoing work in this area by CISL and the ILG.
