Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Dr Sibusiso Nkomo is Programme Director of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership’s (CISL) Africa Programme. In this role, he shapes strategic direction in research, corporate leadership groups in Kenya and South Africa and multilateral engagement across CISL’s work in Africa. Sibusiso also serves as a faculty member on CISL executive education programmes, including the Sustainability Practitioner Programme, Business and Sustainability Programme, and the FSD Africa Climate Finance Leadership Programme. He co-directs the Corporate Affairs Executive Leadership Programme, delivered in partnership with the Wits School of Governance and CISL.

Biography

Sibusiso brings deep expertise in research and teaching across African governance, public policy, and media. He has held positions as a research associate and visiting academic at the University of Cape Town’s Centre for Social Science Research and the Institute for Democracy, Citizenship and Public Policy in Africa, and was a doctoral fellow at the Archive and Public Culture Research Initiative. His policy work engages with democratic governance and sustainability, and his scholarly work focuses on the political thought and intellectual history of media in Southern Africa.

Prior to joining CISL, Sibusiso worked in political research and polling at Afrobarometer, and before that held roles at Good Governance Africa and Stellenbosch University. He began his career in journalism, contributing to The Sunday Independent, Cape Argus, and Cape Times.

Sibusiso holds a PhD from the University of Cape Town, a MA from the University of the Witwatersrand,Johannebsurg and completed his undergraduate studies at Stellenbosch University.​​
