Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Richard Hardyment has over 15 years of experience advising and assessing companies on responsible and sustainable business practices. He is currently at the Institute of Business Ethics, where his work focuses on the intersection of markets, morals, and measurement.

Previously, Richard was the founding Director of Research at the World Benchmarking Alliance and a Director at Corporate Citizenship consultancy. He is an independent member of B Lab’s Multinational Standards Advisory Council and has worked extensively with leading companies, including Unilever, on measuring, disclosing, and improving sustainability impacts. He also served as an advisor at Forum for the Future.

Richard guest lectures on materiality and metrics at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and Imperial College London.

He is the author of The Wellbeing Purpose: How Companies Can Make Life Better (Routledge, 2018) and Measuring Good Business (Routledge, 2024).

Richard holds an MA from the University of Cambridge and an MBA from Imperial College London.
