About
Dr Tim Forman is an Associate Teaching Professor at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) at the University of Cambridge. He serves as Course Director and Director of Studies for the ‘Sustainability Leadership for the Built Environment’ Master’s and Postgraduate Certificate programme.
Tim’s teaching and research background relates to the transition to sustainability and resilience priorities in the built environment sector and to the implications of this for professional practices. He has a multi-disciplinary background, with experience in architecture, construction and engineering contexts.
Tim holds a PhD in Architecture and an MSc in Theory and Practice of Sustainable Design from Cardiff University. He was previously a Senior Research Associate at CISL. Prior to joining CISL, he worked as a researcher and teaching fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Development in the Department of Engineering at Cambridge, which he joined in 2015.
Tim’s teaching and research interests in sustainable practices include low-carbon and climate-resilient buildings; innovation; construction; retrofit, refurbishment, and adaptive reuse; circularity and the circular economy; and broader opportunities and challenges related to designing, constructing, and operating built environments to meet evolving climate conditions and social needs. He has led and supported university teaching related to sustainability across numerous degree programs for architecture, engineering, and built environment practitioners. Outside of his academic work at Cambridge, Tim maintains active engagement with industry by providing research consultancy, advising startup accelerators and supporting innovation activity, and contributing to various advisory panels and practitioner-led initiatives.
