Professor Thabani Mlilo

Thabani Mlilo is a senior mining and sustainability executive with 24 years’ experience across Africa, South America, North America and Asia Pacific. An inherently people-centred, systems thinking, problem solver, he operates at the intersection of strategy, governance, risk, environmental performance, social licence, community development, government relations and leadership development.

He is Director of the Leaders in Extractives and African Development (LEAD) Programme at UCT, and Managing Director of Moahi Sustainable Solutions. He has held executive leadership roles including Executive Head positions at KAP Limited and ERG Africa in the DRC, and Head of Sustainability roles at Anglo American Platinum, AngloGold Ashanti and PwC. 

He brings a distinctive combination of executive operating experience, strategic foresight on socio-political, regulatory and geopolitical risk, community and government relations, environmental performance, and translation of strategy intelligence into operational excellence.
