24 June 2026 - During London Climate Action Week, CLG Europe joined CLG UK, the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership’s Corporate Leaders Network (CLN) and international partners for a high-level roundtable exploring how stronger policy and business collaboration can accelerate clean electrification in Europe and globally.
Held under the theme ‘Charge Ahead: Aligning business and policy for a global clean electrified future’, the roundtable brought together senior business leaders, policymakers and international partners, including Anthony Agotha, EU Special Envoy for Climate and Environment at the European External Action Service, alongside senior representatives from the UK Government.
The discussion focused on the policy frameworks and collaborative action needed to unlock the benefits of electrification for energy security, affordability, industrial competitiveness, resilience and economic growth. Participants highlighted that, while clean electricity generation continues to expand, faster electrification of sectors including transport, buildings and industry will be needed to realise its full potential.
A consistent message from businesses was the need for stable and predictable policy frameworks that provide the confidence to invest. Participants pointed to the importance of long-term signals across areas including the EU Emissions Trading System, energy taxation and market design, alongside measures to strengthen grids, improve access to affordable clean electricity and accelerate renewable energy deployment.
The discussion also emphasised the need to shift the focus from ambition to implementation. Grid constraints, electricity costs, uncertain demand, cross-border interconnection and system flexibility were among the barriers identified, alongside the need for stronger digital infrastructure to help optimise electricity supply and demand.
Participants also explored opportunities for closer policy alignment between the UK and EU, as well as greater international cooperation. Perspectives from Latin America and Africa highlighted how different markets are approaching renewable energy deployment and electrification, while underlining their growing importance for economic resilience, energy access and greater energy independence.
The roundtable reinforced that electrification is not only a climate priority, but a central part of Europe’s wider competitiveness, energy security and industrial strategy. With technologies increasingly available and businesses ready to act, participants stressed the importance of coordinated policy and investment frameworks that can support deployment at scale and translate ambition into delivery.
