Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Screen grab of online summit attended by CISL and CISL Ambassadors

20 February 2025 - CISL Ambassadors joined CISL CEO, Lindsay Hooper, for a Summit aimed at enhancing our understanding of the regional needs of our Network members and sharing the incredible engagement of our Network members globally.

CISL’s Ambassadors play an invaluable role in our mission, which is to connect CISL 40,000 Network members within a supportive and ambitious community of action. Ambassadors bring together alumni and other Network members within their region, to engage on topical sustainability issues, connect with peers, and discover some of CISL’s latest thinking. In late January 2025, Ambassadors based in the United Arab Emirates, the UK, the Nordics, Continental Europe, and the USA participated in an online summit.

CEO Lindsay Hooper shared CISL’s latest thinking. Lindsay’s presentation confronted the reality that old approaches to sustainability have not delivered sufficient progress – and set out the mindset shift that organisations must adopt: You can’t do business on a dead planet, so it is in business and finance’s interests to remove the tension between sustainability and profitability. Lindsay spoke to how organisations will benefit from focusing their sustainability efforts on advocating for and contributing to necessary market shifts. You can read more on this here: Survival of the Fittest: From ESG to Competitive Sustainability

Lindsay also shared the four pillars of CISL’s strategy – and this was followed by a discussion with ambassadors of how these can inform Network engagement throughout 2025. Stay informed on work in your local area by contacting your regional Ambassador, or signing up to CISL’s newsletter.

Following this, Communications Director Adele Williams explained the thinking behind CISL’s recently launched new visual identity for CISL – you may have already noticed this in our logo and across our reports - as well as sharing examples of the new branding applied to reports and social media.

Ambassadors drew on the discussions to develop action plans for 2025. These will generate more opportunities for our 40,000 strong Network to connect, learn from each other, and take collective action to transform systems so that they become fair and sustainable.
