This week CISL welcomed Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, to the Entopia Building in Cambridge for discussions on responsible technology governance, sustainability challenges and opportunities to strengthen collaboration between Australia and the UK.
The visit brought together colleagues from CISL and the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy (MCTD) to explore shared priorities in technology, leadership and systems change.
The visit marked a return to CISL for Governor-General Mostyn, who has a longstanding connection with the Institute, having served on the Australian faculty of the Cambridge University Business and Sustainability Leadership Programme for more than a decade.
Discussions focused on how governments, businesses and civil society can respond to the rapid development of artificial intelligence while maintaining public trust and ensuring technology serves the public interest. Participants explored shared policy challenges facing both Australia and the UK, including online safety, information integrity, AI governance and the future of responsible technology deployment. The conversation also examined how organisations can build the leadership, innovation and policy frameworks needed to navigate increasingly complex environmental, social and technological challenges.
