The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will take place in Yerevan, Armenia, from 19-30 October 2026. The conference will mark the first global review of progress against the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and is expected to focus on implementation, resource mobilisation and scaling finance for nature.  

As governments, businesses and financial institutions assess progress, discussions are likely to explore how finance, policy and market mechanisms can help accelerate nature-positive outcomes and support the transition to resilient economies. Areas of focus are expected to include biodiversity finance, sustainable land use, resilient food systems and the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems. 

These themes align closely with CISL's work on food, land and agriculture. Through our research, leadership programmes and industry collaborations, we work with partners to help create the conditions for nature-positive solutions to scale. Through our A-Track programme, we have explored how innovative business models can strengthen food security, improve resilience and support better outcomes for nature, highlighting the importance of aligning policy, finance and incentives to enable adoption and scale. 

As COP17 approaches, CISL is supporting a campaign on incentives reform, calling for greater action to reform incentives that drive biodiversity loss and environmental degradation. Redirecting public finance and creating market signals that reward long-term value can help unlock investment, strengthen resilience and accelerate progress towards the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
