Hemma Varma

Hemma Varma is a Strategic Consultant at the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance focusing on developing solutions for the hospitality industry that address human rights and climate action issues for the sector. Hemma also tutors on the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) Business Sustainability Management course.

Previously she had a 25-year career with Marriott International during which time Hemma worked on property in Austria and the UK, as well as Marriott's global reservations and customer care centre in operations, reservations, and training positions before joining the Social Impact Team at the company’s UK head office. Hemma led Marriott's Sustainability & Social Impact efforts in Europe, working across all business functions to identify, develop and implement processes and guidelines addressing sustainability issues and advance against Marriott’s global sustainability & social impact strategy.

She has a successful track-record of stakeholder engagement across 30+ countries, high-level NGO partnership development and implementation, and developing and implementing engaging internal and external communications and fundraising
