Dr Kennedy Mbeva

Kennedy Mbeva is a Research Associate at the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk and a Research Fellow and Member of the Governing Body at Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge, having previously served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. His research focuses on the governance of global catastrophic risk, with particular attention to geoeconomics and catastrophic climate change. 

Dr Mbeva has contributed to high-profile UN scientific reports, including the IPCC Sixth and ongoing Seventh Assessment Reports and the Adaptation Gap Report, and has served on Kenya's official delegation to the UN Climate Change negotiations. A Kenyan national, he holds a PhD in International Relations, awarded with distinction, from the University of Melbourne, and has studied and worked across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia. 

Kennedy's latest book, Africa's Right to Development in a Climate-Constrained World (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023, co-authored), brings together his interests in development justice and climate governance.
