Julia Kukard
- Senior Associate, University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership
About
Dr Julia Kukard is a global expert on leadership maturity and leadership stuckness. She has over 30 years of experience in learning and development in organisations worldwide and in most sectors. Julia has an BA Hons, MA, MBA, and a doctorate in Existential Psychotherapy. Her doctoral research focussed on leadership stuckness and how leaders can respond more fluidly to the world. She is trained in a variety of coaching methodologies but prefers an Existential orientation.
Her coaching and facilitation work focusses on supporting leaders to make better and more effective choices in and for our world. During the 90’s Julia worked on sustainability standards for the British Standards Institute and consulted on management systems and reporting with several consulting firms including PWC South Africa. She left this field to work in coaching, leadership, and organisational development, in a search to understand why and how attitudes to sustainability were informed by organisational and leadership culture. Happily, now, 27 years later she has found a way to integrate her two passions; understanding humans and their approach to sustainability in all its forms.
Julia has co-authored two books on leadership and in 2025 published a book on her own on leadership stuckness, the subject of her doctoral research. She is due to publish a fourth more popular book on transformation in February 2027.
