About
Irem Yerdelen is a forward-thinking leader, working at the interface between (un)insurable risks and traditional & alternative financing strategies for the past two decades. Lately this nexus includes sustainability strategy and climate change management to aid low carbon transition and resilience. Irem is a Partner at ERM, the world's largest sustainability consultancy firm. She advises global clients from all sectors to manage their transition to a low carbon economy; from strategy, reporting to operationalising sustainability - including all types of ESG, Climate, Nature, Decarbonisation and Resilience related matters. Irem is also an elected Councillor for the City of London Corporation since 2022, currently acting as the Lead Member for Sustainable Finance.
Irem has been active in developing market wide green finance initiatives in the UK and got appointed as the Deputy Chair of UK's Transition Finance Council in early 2025. She is a Board Director of the Green Finance Institute. Irem's background is in international risk management and insurance industry, having worked at Marsh for 6 years and WTW for 10 years, specialising on (re)insurance and alternative risk solutions for global complex risks.
Irem studied Insurance as her bachelor's degree, and then added on two two master's degrees, in Business Management (MA) and Risk Management (MSc). Irem is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers since 2019, recently established its Sustainability Working Group.
