Leading the Challenge on Climate Change

2009 – Many leaders from our industry have harnessed the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change. Sustainable development strategies, ecoplanning and responsible operations are becoming commonplace. This report offers a shared vision for our industry which aims to build on the work already underway and to guide the progressive development of new business models decoupling growth from increased greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership worked with members of the World Travel and Tourism Council to create a dialogue to increase understanding of the impact of climate change. WTTC members chose to focus on five key themes in sustainability to achieve their vision:

  • Accountability and responsibilty;
  • Local community sustainable growth and capacity building;
  • Educating customers and stakeholders; Greening supply chains;
  • Innovation, capital investment and infrastructure
