Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Intellectual Property – workshop

Hosted by the Canopy, this event will provide a general introduction to Intellectual Property (IP) and will give an overview of the different forms of IP, before taking a deeper dive into the world of patents to explore what inventions can be protected, the factors to consider when deciding whether to protect an invention by way of a patent, the advantages that patent protection can provide, the costs and timelines involved, and tips to avoid common pitfalls.

The event will be delivered by Matt Pinney, a UK and European patent attorney from the Cambridge office of Marks & Clerk. Matt has a degree in Electronic Engineering and specialises in advising on the protection of inventions in the fields of electronics, mobile telecommunications, and software. Matt works with clients of all sizes from universities and other academic institutions, startups, SMEs, to large multinationals.

Matt will deliver a one-hour workshop. He will also be based in the Canopy for the day, and is available for clinic hours, if you would like to discuss any specific IP questions you may have.
