Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Lisbon Commercial Centre

With a sustainability strategy already in place, Fidelidade, Portugal’s largest insurance company, wanted to engage its senior leadership team in a strategic education programme. The aim of the programme was to deepen their understanding of emerging sustainability-related challenges and opportunities, thereby helping to align their thinking around how these dynamics may affect the company’s long-term value creation and competitive positioning.

We designed and delivered a 1.5-day programme focused on the evolving landscape or risks and opportunities and their strategic implications. Through facilitated discussions and forward-looking analysis, the programme enabled senior leaders to explore how Fidelidade could respond to these trends, not only through traditional risk transfer, but also by strengthening its role in risk prevention and mitigation.. Particular emphasis was placed on embedding sustainability and futures thinking into strategic decision-making, and on aligning leadership perspectives with the company’s purpose and market ambitions.

This engagement reflects a growing recognition within the financial sector that sustainability is not just a compliance issue, it’s a strategic imperative. Fidelidade’s proactive approach is helping to shape the future of inclusive, resilient insurance.

“This programme was a critical step in ensuring that sustainability is fully embedded in how we think, decide, and lead as an organisation. By fostering our senior leadership with a shared understanding of emerging transition risks and opportunities, we are strengthening our ability to create long-term value for our customers, shareholders, and society, while reinforcing our role as a resilient and forward-looking insurer.” João Mestre, Head of Sustainability, Fidelidade
