Nancy is Professor in Sustainable Business Management and Practice at The International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University, Sweden. She is also Associate Professor at Delft University of Technology where she was awarded the TU Delft Technology Fellowship (2015). Her research focuses on sustainable business models, and design and innovation for a circular economy.

Biography

Nancy is Professor in Sustainable Business Management and Practice at The International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) at Lund University, Sweden. She is also Associate Professor at Delft University of Technology where she was awarded the TU Delft Technology Fellowship (2015). Her research focuses on sustainable business models, and design and innovation for a circular economy.

Nancy’s main areas of interest are sustainable business models, business experiments for sustainability, sustainable innovation, scaling up sustainable business and closing the 'idea-action' gap in sustainability.

At Lund University she coordinates research in Sustainable Business. She is responsible for H2020 project CIRCUSOL, which is about Circular Business Model Innovation and Experimentation for the Solar Industry and is involved MISTRA REES; a Swedish research programme on circular economy.

At Delft University of Technology, she coordinated the H2020 Innovative Training Network on Circular Economy Research (Circ€uit) and ERN on creating a European Remanufacturing Network and several other projects on sustainable business models.

Previously Nancy worked as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, where she coordinated project REDRESS on diverting fashion waste from landfill and was involved in FP7 project SustainValue. Nancy has led several collaborative research projects and has been supervising and teaching at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, the Cambridge Department of Engineering and Judge Business School. In 2013 she was a Visiting Fellow at Yale University, where she was lecturing on Corporate Environmental Strategy, while continuing her work on sustainable business models.

Interwoven with her academic work, Nancy regularly advises organisations across sectors and continents and various sustainability start-up initiatives. She co-founded HOMIE, who develop and test circular business models, starting with pay per use home appliances.

Before going into academia, Nancy held positions in the logistics, banking and consulting sectors. Originally from the Netherlands, she has lived and worked in France, the UK, the USA and now Sweden. Nancy holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
