Portia is an established leader and innovator in the sustainability field and has worked across various sectors, including financial services, mining, development, and transport. She currently works as an independent consultant. Work executed includes sustainable development, climate change, social and financial inclusion.

She is able to combine macro scientific, social and business approaches to projects. Her experience is in policy development and she is able to connect with stakeholders from varying backgrounds with the aim of problem solving and collaboration.

A core driver in her mission is in seeing a net positive social and environmental impact from business activities. It is also to lean more to the opportunities presented by ESG, rather than focusing on risks. Improving resilience is going to determine winners in the current operating environment. On the climate change front, she has been on the forefront on action research on practical solutions for creating equity in the Just Energy Transition, which includes gender mainstreaming.

Portia a Master's degree in Sustainability Leadership from Cambridge University, where she conducted a research project on the financing of water infrastructure in informal settlements in South Africa. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainability Leadership from Cambridge University, and a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Geography and Environmental Management from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
