Dr Jenny Pope is a practitioner, researcher and teacher of sustainability with over 35 years’ experience. She is currently Professor of Sustainability in Mining at Murdoch University in Western Australia, and Director of Western Australian consulting firm Integral Sustainability, which works with business and government to integrate sustainability objectives and strategies into decision-making processes and operational practices on the ground.

Biography

She recently completed a 5-year term as a member of the Environmental Protection Authority of Western Australia, a statutory authority that provides independent advice to government on environmental matters. Jenny is also an Extra-ordinary Professor of Environmental Management at North-West University in South Africa.

As a Fellow of CISL, Jenny has been a first-year supervisor (formerly tutor), dissertation supervisor and member of the core teaching team on the MSt in Sustainability Leadership programme since the first cohort. Jenny has qualifications in chemical engineering and public policy, and much of her work, including her PhD research has been focused on environmental management and sustainability as they relate to industrial operations and projects. Building on her environmental background, Jenny has also developed a passion for and expertise in the social dimensions of sustainability, particularly the relationship between business and the communities in which they operate. Jenny has found that her own work at the nexus of practice and research provides an ideal basis from which to support students to drive real change for sustainability in a way that is informed by insights from research and academic rigour.
