Senior Teaching Associate, Graduate Education - Sustainable Business

Salary: £36,914 - £49,553

Vacancy reference number EN25989

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is a globally influential institute within the University of Cambridge working on a mission to develop leadership and solutions towards a sustainable economy.

Our work has never been more relevant as leaders in business and government look to ‘build back better’ from the Covid-19 global pandemic.  In our eyes, this means an economic recovery which prioritises investment and innovation in solutions to climate change, the restoration of nature, whilst delivering inclusive, resilient societies.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Graduate Education team, which runs our expanding suite of Master's-level programmes. They are delivered on a part-time basis and are designed to build the capacity of professionals to bring about positive change for sustainability within their organisations. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are in the process of extending our portfolio even further, and are currently working towards the creation of additional programmes.

The Graduate Education team provides a collaborative, supportive and hardworking working environment with a strong and effective team dynamic. We are looking for a new team member with a commitment to students, to their learning journey and to the ultimate impact on sustainability.

As Senior Teaching Associate, you will serve as Course Director for our Master’s in Sustainability Leadership. You will be responsible for the overall design and delivery, including by briefing, fostering relationships with and identifying contributors to deliver material aligned with the learning objectives.

Much of the content is delivered by a large pool of contributors within and beyond the University; hence attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills and  a broad affinity for sustainability in a business context are needed. In addition, as a Course Director you will be involved in all aspects of the student journey from admissions to graduation. As a Senior Teaching Associate you will also be encouraged to develop content and sessions and to supervise assignments and/or  dissertations within their areas of expertise. You will join CISL’s wider Education team, which will provide unique opportunities to contribute to Institute-wide initiatives and cross-team collaborations.

Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL’s work and demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • PhD in a related area, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Proven academic interest and professional experience in the field of/related to the sustainability in a business context.
  • Experience of successfully developing and delivering lectures and seminars.
  • Previous confirmed experience of organisation, management, leadership, communication and programme development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to explain concepts and complex information to generalists, develop and encourage the commitment to learn in others and to present material to a range of audiences.
  • Commitment to maintaining high quality through adherence to CISL and University procedures with active engagement with students, contributors and CISL colleagues who form the delivery team.
  • Ability to provide pastoral assistance to students (more in-depth issues will be referred to College Tutors).
  • Demonstrable ability to teach and/or supervise a particular topic(s) of relevance to ‘sustainable business’ in a manner that is relevant and  accessible to students working in professional practice.
  • Ability to maintain and develop academic and practical knowledge in appropriate subject areas by reading, attending conferences and active engagement with other academics and practitioners in the field.

The deadline for applications is Sunday 11th April 2021.

This post is full-time and located in Cambridge. CISL is an equal opportunities employer and candidates from all backgrounds and predispositions are encouraged to apply. Informal enquiries may be made to CISL Human Resources team,
