Salary: £31,406 - £40,927
Ref: EN31259
Closing Date: 5 June 2022

For over 30 years, the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) has worked with companies and individuals who have stepped up to lead change and to tackle critical global challenges in businesses, finance and governments. Finance is a key lever for change towards a sustainable economy and our Centre for Sustainable Finance brings together over 50 financial institutions across five continents to address CISL’s three Rewiring the Economy tasks for finance through to 2030:

•    Ensure capital acts for the long term
•    Price capital according to the true costs of business activities
•    Innovate financial structures to better serve sustainable business

The role

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Centre for Sustainable Finance as a Senior Project Manager working with the insurance industry platform ClimateWise developing thought leading content, including managing a workstream on nature-related finance. ClimateWise represents a growing global network of leading insurance industry organisations, helping to align its members’ expertise to directly support society as it responds to the risks and opportunities of climate change.

The successful candidate will manage market-leading research projects that generate insights and seek to drive change in the insurance sector, primarily in climate and nature themes. Key responsibilities include ensuring research, stakeholder engagement and communication strategies are managed to a consistent standard of excellence.

The successful candidate will manage research projects for ClimateWise, including a market leading project to build global insurance industry, European policy maker and regulatory understanding of the role of the insurance industry in assessing and managing nature-related risks and impacts on the net zero 1.5 degree pathway. The work builds on ClimateWise’s net-zero underwriting and CISL’s nature related financial risk research to produce a roadmap and policy brief to ensure nature is factored into net-zero commitments. The second project in later 2022, is delivering with a consortium an EU Horizon Coordination and Support Action (CSA) project which will examine technical, financial and operational feasibility and performance of solutions that are built upon and combine disaster risk financing and investments with nature-based solutions.

Key responsibilities include ensuring research, stakeholder engagement and communication strategies are managed to a consistent standard of excellence. Collaboration with colleagues across CISL’s finance, business, policy, education and research teams is key. The Senior Project Manager will manage external relationships with project partners at member firms and other strategic partners.

Skills and experience

•    Advanced research and communication skills; the ability to clearly summarise and present findings in written and oral format
•    Ability to deliver professional, compelling project outputs within budget and to agreed timeframes
•    Experience leading research projects with external clients
•    Understanding of nature-related finance themes (e.g. biodiversity loss, land degradation) is desirable but not essential
•    Experience working closely with senior stakeholders, ideally including leaders in the finance sector or policy decision makers
•    Ability to think strategically and anticipate developments to avoid and mitigate problems
•    Ability to manage multiple projects at any one-time, maximising synergies between projects, reviewing progress against targets and adapting as projects evolve
•    Ability to work on own initiative and co-ordinate work with others, often under time pressure
•    Ability to build relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders

This is an exciting opportunity to join an entrepreneurial and supportive team doing work at the leading edge of sustainable finance research and convening.
