Senior Administrator – Temporary, full time (6 months)

CISL is looking to recruit a highly capable senior administrator to work directly with our former director and CEO on the final 6 months of a major sustainability renovation project, which will be the most sustainable building in the University of Cambridge’s portfolio and potentially in the U.K. This post in on a temporary basis and available full time, starting as soon as possible and working from home for the most part, with some travel to Cambridge for meetings.

The postholder needs to be an experienced and senior administrator, who relishes a challenge and is used to complex projects with multiple stakeholders. They must be an excellent communicator, practised in liaising with senior management with a tenacious approach to staying on top of all aspects of the project, with multiple stakeholder project plans that need co-ordinating. The postholder will be responsible for a number of related administrative tasks including potentially undertaking procurement exercises. They must be willing to turn their hand to these varied tasks, as demanded by the project and help the senior manager to anticipate issues coming down the line and avert or mitigate these. Rigorous attention to detail is required and an ability to juggle a high and varied workload, with new tasks arising at short notice throughout the project.  

The postholder does not need experience of working on a construction/renovation project but be able to quickly learn the relevant terminology to be able to take useful minutes and spot any misunderstandings or issues.  

The following skills and knowledge are essential:

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Experience of successfully liaising with senior management
  • Excellent trouble shooter who is proactive in spotting issues and managing them or escalating as needed
  • Ability to work fast with high level of accuracy
  • Proficiency in Office based programmes and particularly Excel 
  • Experience of gantt charts and other project plans
  • Ability to manage a varied workload, meet deadlines and communicate with team as needed for any issues that arise


The post will be contracted on a full-time basis, at a Grade 5 or 6 equivalent of the University’s Temporary Employment Service (£14.22/hour - £15.53/hour). Flexible hours to fit around caring responsibilities or other commitments are offered, subject to negotiation but meetings also run to 6pm regularly and availability for these is needed. The postholder will ideally work from home with equipment provided, but could work from a co-working space potentially, paid for by the project. The candidate must be available to travel to Cambridge for meetings as needed and sometimes at relatively short notice.
