The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is a globally influential institute within the University of Cambridge working on a mission to develop leadership and solutions towards a sustainable economy. The role

We are seeking a highly motivated Project Manager (maternity cover) to join our Business & Nature team, working with companies to understand their impacts and dependencies on nature and develop their strategies to become nature positive, as well as be prepared to invest in nature at scale. The team's work includes convening business groups, advisory work and supporting the application of research in the real economy.

The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of projects, including some events, ensuring that all activities are managed to a consistent standard of excellence. These projects touch on matters such as supporting nature-positive decision-making in businesses and unblocking barriers to cross-sector landscape-level cooperation. Delivery partners may include CISL Fellows/Senior Associates and other external experts.

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a range of projects, from planning and administration through to supporting business development. They will have planned and delivered both in person and virtual events, preferably for a business audience. They will have experience in budget planning and communications, including on digital platforms.

The role starts as soon as possible in April or May.

Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL's work and will be expected to demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Ability to manage complex projects within budget, including concurrent projects of different types and on different topics;
  • Experience of managing and delivering events (in person and virtual) and optimising communications on social media;
  • Experience of supporting online community management and information sharing platforms (e.g. Reddit, Mobilize, Tribe, Facebook Groups, Slack);
  • Ability to work on own initiative and co-ordinate work with others, often under time pressure ;
  • Ability to think strategically and anticipate developments to avoid and mitigate problems;
  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Ability to research and organise information and produce accessible briefing documents;
  • High level of competence across Microsoft software packages.

The following attributes are desirable:

  • Knowledge of sustainability issues, including biodiversity protection and restoration, soil health, and water management.

This maternity cover position is for a fixed term of 6 months, or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
