The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is a globally influential institute within the University of Cambridge working on a mission to develop leadership and solutions towards a sustainable economy. 

CISL has a strong focus on the finance sector. Our Centre for Sustainable Finance team works with groups of leading firms in the global investment, banking and insurance industries (through the Investment Leaders Group, Banking Environment Initiative and ClimateWise group respectively) to improve their resilience and risk management, and facilitate positive impact and digital transformation.

The role will ensure that assigned programmes, projects and events are delivered and managed to a consistent standard of excellence, including the management of the project team and development of external relationships.  You will be expected to maintain an awareness of CISL’s market and to ensure that assigned programmes, project or events are managed in alignment with market needs. You will also be required to demonstrate and develop expertise in project areas and identify key research questions that are unanswered.

As Project Manager, you will be involved in the management of a range of projects across the platforms, with a focus on the insurance sector. Projects will focus on low-carbon transition research, tools and capacity building. They will also provide transition risk expertise to other projects within the Centre for Sustainable Finance.

Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL’s work and will be expected to demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Quantitative analysis, including forecasting.
  • Managing staff, financial planning and delivering work to a high quality within project budgets.
  • Demonstrable interest in working with finance sector companies in addition to academics, policy makers and others to help drive a leadership response to sustainability challenges.
  • Understanding of how national and international policy is made and influenced.
  • Understanding of sustainability issues and how they affect leadership in a business context.
  • Experience of working closely with senior stakeholders including business leaders and policy decision makers.
  • Experience in sustainable investment either in the insurance or investment sectors.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and work within a small partially virtual team, often under time pressure, to manage competing priorities and to manage others in this context.
  • Capability to perform research and analysis of specific challenges the finance sector faces on sustainability and present clear and simple summaries of the findings.

The following attributes are desirable:

  • Experience in working with discount cash flow analysis and / or econometric models.
