Programme Manager - Centre for Business Transformation

Closing date for applications is 27th September 2020

Programme Manager
Centre for Business Transformation

Salary: £36,914 to £48,114

How can business play a transformative role in delivering a sustainable economy that works for all? What business strategies protect and restore nature, decarbonise the economy, reduce inequality and build resilience? What new tools and frameworks will enable companies to align organisational purpose, leadership and change with these outcomes? In this role you will help provide the thought leadership and commercially grounded solutions necessary to answer these questions.

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) empowers leaders to build a sustainable economy. We catalyse market leadership through our Centres, our multi-disciplinary research and educational programmes.

The Centre for Business Transformation aims to develop original thinking on the role and contribution of business, help companies adopt ambitious strategies and practices and provide a 'home' for forward looking organisations who want to be part of the solution.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join the Centre and lead the Business Transformation Group to help drive CISL's work on business transformation. The candidate will be motivated by the prospect of stimulating the business community towards playing an active role in building a sustainable economy and inclusive society.

You will provide strategic leadership and deliver an ambitious programme of engagement with businesses working directly with some of the world's most influential companies, researchers, experts and innovators. You will be responsible for facilitating the group and developing thought leadership and projects that break new ground and aim to transform business practice and ambition. You will help identify new areas of interest to engage in and develop relationships with key funding organisations.  You will be credible with a variety of audiences, and able to hit the ground running with an entrepreneurial mind-set.

This is an exciting and highly visible opportunity to take responsibility for the design and delivery of CISL's work in a critical area. The role will encompass existing workstreams such as service propositions to accelerate the low-carbon transition and partnering with clients to counter deforestation in supply chains, while allowing for the development of new collaborative concepts.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Strong experience in a sustainability working environment dealing with senior business executives, with insight into business strategy, operations and value chains.
  • Clear understanding of major global issues, such as climate change, biodiversity and inequality and how they affect business risk, opportunity and leadership.
  • Strong relationship management skills with an ability to build, grow and maintain rapport with clients, partners, sponsors and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience in facilitation and consensus building.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning and collaborative working.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to managing a number of complex projects at one time, working in fast-moving and virtual teams and to operating independently.

The following attributes are also desirable:

  • Strong marketing and business development skills.
  • Experience in developing and overseeing research and thought leadership projects and producing written work on business strategy, change and leadership.
  • High level of competence across standard office software packages.
  • Experience working in an international context.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area.

While this post is offered on a full-time and permanent basis, we are open to offers of long-term loans or secondments from institutions.

Please note that the closing date for applications is 27th September 2020, however interviews may be held throughout the period the advert is live.
