Marketing Manager [Fixed Term 12 months]

Salary: £30,942-£40,322

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is a globally influential institute within the University of Cambridge, with a mission to develop leadership and solutions for a sustainable economy.

We work with executives, companies and innovators at the highest levels of business and governments, internationally, to build the capacity for global change. The communications and marketing team plays a key role in building CISL's reputation for impact, and attracting high level delegates, and global companies, to our executive programmes, advisory services, start-up accelerator and other sustainability initiatives.

We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious senior Marketing Manager with advanced digital marketing skills, to build on the success and growth CISL has seen to date, via professional marketing approaches. The right individual will have a strong commercial background and will bring new ideas, fresh thinking and professional practice to our marketing operations - harnessing new technologies for greater marketing efficiency ¿ via segmentation, targeting, automation and integration.

There will be a high degree of focus on digital tools and channels in this role as we implement our new cloud-based CRM (Dynamics 365), migrate our website to a more powerful platform, and implement new systems and processes to automate the marketing funnel and client journeys.

To deliver the marketing strategy across multiple portfolios, you will have direct responsibility for 1-2 marketing and communications project managers, external providers and a virtual team of colleagues undertaking PR, publications, webinars, SEO, web publishing, social media, events, and content creation. You will be a strategic thinker and supportive line manager, but a capable 'doer' as well.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Experience delivering successful multi-channel B2C and B2B marketing campaigns, with an emphasis on digital channels
  • Developing coherent marketing propositions for a business audience
  • Ability to produce high quality marketing and promotional materials
  • Experience of writing compelling copy for a range of communication channels
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) + Email marketing systems for marketing to individuals and companies
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills
  • A persuasive communicator in writing and in person, with the ability to speak confidently and professionally with senior leaders
  • Experience managing partner and agency relationships
  • A basic understanding or willingness to learn about key sustainability concepts
  • A self-starting attitude; driving their own work whilst working as part of a team
  • Effective prioritisation and attention to detail, whilst working to multiple and tight deadlines
  • Numerate, with experience of managing budgets

The following attributes are desirable:

  • A marketing-related degree and/or membership of a professional body such as the Chartered Institute for Marketing (CIM) would be an advantage, but relevant experience is just as valuable.
  • Provisioning systems for marketing automation (as the marketing subject matter expert, not technical expert) ¿ specifically Click dimensions in our case
  • Development of marketing dashboards and analytics
  • Data management or data quality, including GDPR compliance
  • Developing user journeys, supported by marketing approaches
  • Branding and proposition development
  • Marketing for services and solutions, not products
