Deadline for applicants: 21 Aug2022

The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is a globally influential institute within the University of Cambridge working on our mission to develop leadership and solutions towards a sustainable economy.

Our work has never been more relevant as leaders in business and government look to 'build back better' from the Covid-19 global pandemic.

The role

CISL is currently going through an exciting and transformative period as we prepare to move into our ultra-sustainable new headquarters in central Cambridge this year. Our Institute has ambitious plans for growth and the HR Coordinator will play a key role in providing a highly efficient and proactive recruitment service, as well as generalist HR support, whilst ensuring compliance with University's policies and best practice.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced HR Coordinator with a solid understanding of how to support managers through the recruitment cycle, alongside HR generalist experience, to actively support CISL's future ambitions. Our HR Coordinators are the first point of contact for all recruitment and HR related activity, and therefore being customer-focused and approachable is key.

The role holder will provide a responsive, coordinated and high calibre administrative and advisory service, using their initiative and providing advice to both internal and external stakeholders across the Institute.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Act as the first line of support throughout the recruitment process, including drafting job descriptions, reviewing applications, arranging interviews, completing pre-employment screening and on-boarding new starters.
  • Coordinate generalist HR processes, including starter and leaver activities, managing the annual appraisal process and training and development activities.
  • Provide sound HR guidance to employees and managers in line with the University and Institute's policies.
  • Work closely with the Compliance team, supporting the visa applications process.
  • Absence management (annual leave, sickness, parental leave etc).
  • Assist on a variety of ad-hoc projects as required.
  • Keep up to date with the latest HR best practice, as well as any University policies and initiatives which may impact HR activities.

Key skills and experience

The ideal candidate will be expected to meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of supporting recruitment processes, working closely with hiring managers and liaising with candidates.
  • Customer-focussed, with an approachable and collaborative working style.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to effectively manage and prioritise own workload.
  • Experience of working in a HR environment, with a keen interest in supporting colleagues throughout each stage of the employee lifecycle.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle large amount of HR data sensitively and efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A keen interest in learning and remaining up to date with HR best practice is essential.
  • Knowledge of various HR tools and systems is preferred but not essential.
