Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

8 June 2016 – Jill Duggan has joined the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) as Director of Policy and Director of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group (CLG).

CISL’s Policy team runs a number of collaborative business, policy and climate change initiatives including providing secretariat for the Corporate Leaders Group and EU and Pacific Alliance Green Growth Platforms.

Jill has been a Senior Associate of CISL for two years and brings with her extensive experience of international climate and energy policy from both government and industry perspectives. She has been deeply involved in the development of climate policy in the UK and Europe as well as working extensively in the United States and Canada.

Jill was previously Director of Policy for Doosan Babcock before running her own consultancy, Carbon Policy Associates. She has been a board member for a diverse range of organisations – from the European Power Plant Suppliers Association to Sandbag, a global climate think tank. Jill has experienced the climate and energy arena from a variety of perspectives and has a broad understanding of the opportunities and obstacles that face business and policymakers.

Jill replaces Sandrine Dixson-Declève who oversaw the growing influence of the group at EU and international level. Under Sandrine's leadership the CLG was able to play a key role in calling for a stronger EU 2030 climate and energy package and securing the Paris Agreement on climate change. Sandrine also oversaw the founding of the EU Green Growth Platform.

Phillippe Joubert is the Chair of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group.

On her appointment Jill Duggan said:

“I have seen at first hand the value of business voices like The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group (CLG) in advancing climate ambition. The Group’s success in securing deeper relationships with high-level policymakers has provided the opportunities to show real leadership and develop new thinking.

“I believe the CLG is unique in its EU-wide breadth; its high-level access; its consistent demonstration of the benefits of business action and, of course, its unique relationship with a renowned academic institution – the University of Cambridge.

“We are at a tipping point in the transition away from the fossil fuel economy.  The creativity of business and industry is developing new ways of working, which makes the future very exciting. The years ahead promise to be both bright and challenging for the Corporate Leaders Group – we have a huge opportunity in the climate challenge ahead of us. Business played a major part in securing the Paris Agreement between nations, and is keen to see that agreement ratified and the rules developed so they can play their part in accelerating action.

The Corporate Leaders Group will continue to show leadership and focus on delivering the promise of Paris, unlocking innovation and supporting ambitious and appropriate decarbonisation policy.”

Philippe Joubert, CLG Chair said:

“Jill Duggan’s appointment as director of the Corporate Leaders Group comes at a critical juncture for our efforts to show that business can and will play its part in moving to a zero net-emission economy.”

CISL Director, Polly Courtice said:

“Jill is a great addition to the senior management team at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group, for which we provide the secretariat.

“The post-Paris period will be exciting as companies, countries, regions and cities move from commitments to action. Our renewed focus on driving and supporting business innovation and solutions alongside concerted policy dialogue will benefit enormously from Jill’s experience in the private and public sectors.”
