27 February 2017 – The Green Growth Summit V took place today in Brussels, bringing together ministers, government officials, businesses and experts from around the world.
The Green Growth Platform Summit welcomed distinguished guests from US, China and India to join forces with EU Climate and Environment Ministers, Members of the European Parliament, Mayors, EU Commission representatives and business leaders.
The aim was to set the global context for action, and the increased ambitions for India and China in tackling climate change. It looked at the action being achieved at city and business level and discussed how to translate this action and experience into the European and global ambition.
Speakers at the Summit included:
- Jonathan Pershing, Director, Environment Program, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and former US Climate Envoy (until Jan 2017)
- Prof. Yi Wang, Member, Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China (NPC), Vice President and Professor, CAS Institutes of Science and Development (CASISD), Deputy Director-General, Institute of Policy and Management, Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Dr Arunabha Ghosh, Chief Executive Officer, Council on Energy, Environment and Water, India
- Kimmo Tiilikainen, Minister of Agriculture and the Environment, Finland
- Isabella Lövin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Climate and International Development Cooperation, Sweden
- Carole Dieschbourg, Minister of Environment, Luxembourg
- Maria Letizia Mariani, CEO and GM Philips Lighting Europe
- Paul Simpson, Chief Executive Officer, CDP
The summit shone a light on the successes that are being achieved within the current challenging political environment. It explored how Europe can grasp the business opportunities and demonstrate leadership in the transition to a zero carbon, resilient economy both at home and abroad.
