Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)

Earlier this month we were delighted to welcome back to Cambridge our most recent students to celebrate the successful completion of their respective courses: the Postgraduate Certificates and the Master's in Sustainability Leadership.

Whilst strengthening their knowledge of the social, environmental, ethical and economic challenges and opportunities facing the world, our latest group of alumni have also developed the leadership capacity and confidence to help bring about organisational and societal transformation. We’re proud to welcome them into the CISL Network, and look forward to their ongoing contributions to the sustainable business community.

Postgraduate Certificates Awards Ceremony

The recipients of the Postgraduate Certificates were awarded their hard-earned qualifications by Dame Polly Courtice, Director of CISL. The Postgraduate Certificates Awards Ceremony is an annual event where students who have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificates in Sustainable Business and Sustainable Value Chains or the Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Business receive their University of Cambridge certificate and transcript.

Postgraduate Certificate students attend two workshops in Cambridge, undertake two practical business orientated assignments and a group project. The students are supported throughout the course by a group of expert industry and academic Tutors. The course aims to equip senior and mid-career professionals with the relevant skillsets to integrate sustainability into strategic business action.  The Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business (PCSB) is offered with the option of two streams to make it most directly relevant to the student’s business function. One stream looks through a lens of organisations and the other approaches content from a value chains context.

Reflecting on the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Value Chains, Corrina Barnes, Perceived Quality, Technical Specialist - Surface Material Integration at Jaguar Land Rover UK said "It was a great course I would recommend it to others."

MSt in Sustainability Leadership Graduation Ceremony

Following in the footsteps of Charles Darwin, Sylvia Plath, Stephen Hawking and Rosalind Franklin, Cohort 6 of the MSt in Sustainability in Sustainability Leadership gathered at the Senate House earlier this month to receive their degrees. This latest group of sustainability leaders enjoyed a full weekend of celebrations which included a Graduation Dinner at Trinity Hall and sharing the Cambridge experience with their families.

Over the past two years this group of ambitious students have attended four residential workshops in Cambridge and heard from 122 academic and industry leaders. They have completed a series of assignments and a 15,000 word research dissertation. As is always the case, there was a large range in the areas they chose to research. Titles included: ‘The Role of Commercial Banks in Water Scarcity Solutions in Developing Countries’ and ‘Climate Resilient Cities – from Planning to Action, Lessons for Success.’

The MSt in Sustainability Leadership celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2019. This course attracts an exceptional calibre of senior and mid-career leaders from all across the world, and a range of business sectors. Applicants may wish to formalise their credentials as sustainability professionals, or gain a better understanding of how sustainability risks and opportunities apply to mainstream business functions. We likewise appeal to leaders from the not-for-profit or public sectors who wish to work together with the private sector to address sustainability challenges.
