Who should apply?

Both PCSB and PCSVC are designed for senior and mid-career professionals and managers with at least three years' work experience.

“With participants from all over the world across different industries, functions and backgrounds, the course has improved my ability to think critically, communicate cross-culturally and apply insight to propose practical solutions.”

Jake Smith, Rolls-Royce plc, PCSB 2016

Applicants

On both programmes, we welcome applications from:

  • mainstream business roles from all business functions, including strategy and policy, finance, corporate affairs and communications, research and business/product development, procurement, operations, sales and marketing
  • social / environmental / CSR / sustainability specialists, including consultants
  • anyone working in the not-for-profit and government sectors that are involved with, or interested in gaining exposure to, sustainability in a business context.

It is assumed that participants will have a reasonably good general knowledge of some of the issues dealt with during the programme; however it is not essential to have specialised knowledge in sustainability or a related field. In fact, we welcome perspectives from participants in a variety of roles who wish to improve their ability to mainstream sustainability into core business activities.

In addition to the formal requirements, we are particularly looking for candidates who can demonstrate academic or professional excellence and who will use their learning from the programme to lead or influence change.

PCSB

PCSB is designed to offer a general overview of what it means to embed sustainability in business, and attracts candidates who wish to look at this through the lens of embedding change within an organisational context.

PCSVC

PCSVC is designed for all business functions and stakeholders associated with a value chain – not just procurement or specific supply chain roles. It is equally relevant to the up- or down-stream ends of supply chains, ranging from raw material suppliers to manufactures to retailers. (The group discount is designed to facilitate access by a number of stakeholders involved in a particular value chain.) Service providers, eg of data platforms or certification schemes also benefit from attending.

Applicants from outside the UK

We welcome applicants from outside the UK. The part-time course based around two workshops has been designed to be accessible for participants based throughout the world. The content is internationally relevant, however it should be noted that the programme is developed and delivered by a predominantly UK team.

Teams or groups (PCSVC only)

On PCSVC (value chains focus), we welcome applications from organisations that want to send a group of participants, who may be: a cross-functional team; representatives from an existing or emerging collaboration; a team from particular department or business unit; and/or a group comprising a specific role(s) across a number of departments or business units.

A discounted rate is available for such group applications. Companies may choose to make use of the discount to facilitate the participation of an external partner, for example. Please for more information.

Please note that each nominated group member will need to submit an individual application that meet the formal requirements, and be selected via the normal competitive selection process.
