26 February 2016 – Today, the CISL-led pilot testing phase finishes for the new draft of the Natural Capital Protocol that is being developed by the Natural Capital Coalition.

Natural Capital Coalition

Over 50 leading businesses have participated in the testing phase and have worked with us to provide valuable feedback. This phase included ten businesses who have tested the Protocol in depth, including The Coca-Cola Company, The Dow Chemical Company, F. Hoffmann-La Roche, Hugo Boss, Kering, Natura, Nespresso, Nestlé, Olam International and Shell. Each company tested the Protocol against specific business applications to ensure it is robust, practical and relevant to the entire private sector.

We are now collating the feedback from this testing phase. These business insights will be fundamental to inform the final version of the Protocol which will be released in July 2016. The final Protocol will enable companies to improve their decision-making by standardising how their relationship with nature is measured and valued.

Dr Gemma Cranston, Senior Programme Manager at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, said: “Testing the Natural Capital Protocol with business is essential to ensure the final product is relevant, accessible and valuable to businesses. The input and contributions from all the pilot testers are a fundamental part of the process. I hope it will ensure the credibility and success of the Protocol that will be launched in July.”
