This exciting role, working in the EU office of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), is an opportunity for an experienced EU policy professional to join a dynamic and fast- paced team that engages with senior business leaders, government ministers and other senior policy makers to support the transition to a sustainable, net zero carbon economy. 

CISL’s Policy Team works to deliver influential projects that include The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group (CLG) (a founding member of the We Mean Business Coalition) and the EU Green Growth Platform, with a planned international expansion of their work.  The team has an excellent track record of high-level EU engagement and is looking for a Senior Programme Manager to help develop and expand the business and policy engagement in Brussels and Member States. 

Reporting to the Brussels Director, the Senior Programme Manager will work to deliver an ambitious programme of engagement between businesses and MEPs, Ministers, officials, Commissioners and academics.  The Senior Programme Manager will identify new areas of interest to engage in, develop relationships with key funding organisations and work with the Director to refine and focus the team’s work to ensure CISL is adding value to European policy discussions.  The role will have line management responsibility for a small team.

We are looking for an individual who has strong knowledge and experience of the Brussels political scene and decision making process and is now looking to further build their influence and management experience. The individual should have a track record of successful engagement with senior executives and government officials and an excellent network in a climate change related field in Brussels.

Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL’s work and will be expected to demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Excellent strategic thinking and experience of developing strategies;
  • Strong and demonstrable influencing skills;
  • Understanding of the European policy process;
  • Understanding of sustainability issues and how they affect leadership in a business context;
  • Significant experience of working closely with senior stakeholders including business leaders and policy decision makers;
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail;
  • Confident facilitator and excellent communicator, with strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to make complex content accessible to a wide range of audiences;
  • Experience of working in a team with the ability to work to multiple, overlapping deadlines in a fast paced environment;
  • Strong project management skills, including financial planning, with experience of developing budgets and managing delivery against them;
  • Ability to work on own initiative, be flexible and manage competing priorities;
  • Line management experience;
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English;
  • Has a qualification to at least degree level or equivalent.

The following attributes are desirable:

  • European language skills;
  • Has a qualification to Master’s level in a relevant field;
  • Experience of engaging in policy development;
  • Experience of event management.

The role is based in Brussels but will require regular travel, including regular visits to the United Kingdom. Applicants must have the right to work in Belgium.
