The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) have an exciting opportunity for an experienced IT Technician to join our team, providing technical support services for all users within our rapidly growing organisation.

CISL is a globally influential institute within the University of Cambridge working on a mission to develop leadership and solutions towards a sustainable economy.

In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of supportive and administrative duties. You will be a reference point for all IT-related queries at the user level, and will ensure the optimal running of all systems, alongside other technical duties. Our users expect a professional level of service such as they would receive in the business world.

This position sits within our Operations team, and we are looking for an individual who will be able to provide support towards CISL’s long term goal of building on our reputation and profile as a global thought leader. This role also provides membership to the University IT Community, allowing you to share knowledge, best practice, and technical expertise.

As an IT Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing first-class, customer-focused IT support across the organisation.
  • Diagnosing, repairing and maintaining hardware and software components to ensure the smooth running of computer systems.
  • Building and updating operating systems and applications images for desktop and laptop computers.
  • Assisting staff with computer problems and solving queries.
  • Providing support for remote workers.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • A background in hands-on technical support.
  • An ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues in person, remotely and via phone.
  • Experience in providing first level support in a Windows 7/10 environment.
  • User account management experience with Active Directory.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2012/2016.
  • Knowledge of Office 365 (desirable).
  • A self-motivated attitude and the ability to work alone as well as part of a team.
  • The ability to prioritise workload, multitask and support multiple stakeholders.
  • Confidence to liaise with 3rd parties as appropriate.
  • A friendly and professional approach to staff.
