This exciting role, working in the EU office of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), is an opportunity for an EU policy professional to join a dynamic and fast- paced team that engages with senior business leaders and European policy makers to unlock new climate change policies and support the transition to a sustainable, net zero carbon economy. 

CISL’s Policy Team works at EU member state and international levels to deliver influential projects that include The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group (CLG), a founding member of the We Mean Business Coalition, and the EU Green Growth Platform, with a planned international expansion of their work. The team has an excellent track record of high-level EU engagement and is looking for a Programme Manager to help develop and expand the business and policy engagement in Brussels and Member States. 

The Programme Manager will deliver an ambitious programme of engagement between businesses and MEPs, Ministers, policy makers, Commissioners and academics.  They will help identify new areas of interest to engage in, develop relationships with key funding organisations and work with senior colleagues including the EU Senior Programme Manager, the Team Director and the Brussels Chairman to ensure CISL is adding value to European policy discussions. 

We are looking for an individual who has knowledge and experience of the Brussels political scene and decision-making process plus is looking to further build their experience and help support action on climate change and making the economy more sustainable.

Applicants must be committed to the values that underpin CISL’s work and will be expected to demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Experience working in a EU institution and/ or member state organisation.
  • Good awareness of the European policy process.
  • Good relationship management skills and a proven ability to grow and maintain relationships with clients, delivery partners and subject experts.
  • Understanding of sustainability issues and how they affect leadership in a business context.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, including experience of financial planning, developing and maintaining budgets, and managing a number of complex projects at one time.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, highly proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to make complex content accessible to a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced pressured environment as part of a project team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, be flexible and manage competing priorities.
  • Has a qualification to at least degree level or equivalent.

The following attributes are desirable:

  • Understanding and experience of the business sector.
  • Experience of developing strategies.
  • European language skills, in addition to English.
  • Experience of event management.

The role is based in Brussels and will require regular travel, including visits to the United Kingdom. Applicants must have the right to work in Belgium.
