The University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is a globally influential institute working to develop leadership and solutions for a sustainable economy.

The Design Manager is a new role, which will sit within CISL’s Corporate Relations, Communications and Marketing team, which contributes to CISL’s long-term growth and strategic impact by building our reputation and profile as a global thought leader.

The Design Manager will play a pivotal role, sitting centrally, but working across portfolios to guide the creativity, design and innovation of CISL materials including print and digital, to engage sustainability leaders and support CISL’s long term growth and impact.

The role is being advertised at a particularly exciting time for the Institute as we continue our growth. We are launching a number of new initiatives in 2019, and will move to a new low carbon building in the centre of Cambridge in 2020, which will serve as a collaboration zone and catalyst for research, education, engagement and sustainable change.

We are looking for a self-starting, ambitious Design Manager who can build on the success we’ve had to date in delivering a strong and consistent visual identity for CISL and its leadership groups. Working on a range of publications for our extensive network, and external audiences, this role will support CISL’s work in developing leadership for a better future.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing layout and undertaking design and art working for print across a full range of creative collateral.
  • Designing and redesigning computer graphics, web page graphics, logos, illustrations, advertisements, brochures
  • Leading and supporting the effective outsourcing of additional projects in liaison with project teams.
  • Managing and delivering CISL’s graphic design workflow across print and digital materials.
  • Producing accurate, digital and print ready high-quality work.
  • Developing clear briefs for projects relating to the required design, imagery and production requirements.
  • Ensuring that CISL’s brand is developed and consistently applied across the range of channels

Applicants must be committed to CISL’s values and must demonstrate the following essential skills and experience (please refer to the Further Information document for the full list):

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Holds a design qualification and excellence in Adobe Illustrator, In-Design and Photoshop (desirable).  
  • Over three years’ graphic design experience.
  • Experience of applying creative skills and developing clear creative concepts across all print and digital platforms.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating an excellent eye for design and excellent aesthetics, delivering compelling messages through amazing designs.
  • Experience of print buying and ability to manage the production of jobs from beginning to end, on time
  • Excellent understanding of print specification and production
  • Experience of brand implementation.

This is a full time, permanent position located in Cambridge.
